Good morning, good afternoon, good evening to you! I've got a topic in mind that I'd love to share with you today-- and this is for you to read whether you've just stumbled across my page, or you've been following me on social media for the last 3-ish years I've been offering this work and sharing publicly.
I've been spending the last 3 years asking myself about the types of clients, students, and friends that I attract into my life.
As well as asking myself: What are some common traits that all of my students share? And what are the most common things my clients tell me they like about our work together?
I ask myself these questions as I find it really important that for a student to learn from their teacher and vice versa, they need to get along! In my opinion, as I have my own teacher, and have met some wonderful guides/Medicine people/teachers along my path (and also met some who I later let go of and learned about why we didn't click), I always felt that there needs to be a level of chemistry with who we're learning from. You know-- I can't for the life of me have a teacher whose jokes I don't think are funny, or if the way they teach doesn't resonate with me!
This is also why about 75% of my students have had a Ceremonial Reading with me first-- you want to know that your teacher connects deeply to your energy field, and that they can share perspectives with you that help you to expand your perception. And, also, you want to know if they're someone you feel safe talking to and sharing with.
So today I've come up with a handy list in my very airy-fairy way of presenting information for you to take a look at and compare with your focus, whether you're a new client or old. And, if you're already clicking with this list, it might offer new perspective on things you're already focused on, and give you a chance to review what you care about!
Without further ado....
You should work with me if....
You are an emotional and visual learner and storyteller
When you tell a story, are you sharing more about how your heart raced, the song playing in the background, or the color of the fish you caught? Or are you more inclined to present short, quick bursts of data that are structured, unembellished, and straight to the point? I tend to be an extremely creative, visual, emotional teacher, and my students share with me that they receive information the best in that way.
You believe that ALL things including plants, animals, soil, stones, clouds, the air, water, and so forth are living, breathing beings who carry vast and infinite wisdom beyond human comprehension
This is a great one-- if you're one of my regular students reading this, you already know that I assign lots of homework having to do with connecting to and learning from things many people would consider to be forgettable in terms of consciousness. And yet-- they have the most to teach.
You adore humanity (even if you struggle with your attitude towards humanity at times!) and feel a strong desire to contribute to understanding, compassion, and harmony on this planet, even if you don't know how yet
All you have to do is show up and want to try. You don't have to be a philanthropist, you could totally be in anger management classes, and you can also be working through deep resentment towards the world. But if you still feel that little flame flickering inside your heart saying, I love them all anyways, then we would work great together.
You feel a sense of leveling with authority-- i.e. you have always felt that your parents, teachers, and other authorities in life were more like very wise friends instead of teacher vs student, parent vs child, etc
Something that I really connect to with my students on is that we all feel that our best teachers have felt more like good friends who happen to have the gift of wisdom or knowing what advice to give. I'm just as much of a student as you are, and there is always more to learn. I find that my students work best when we sprinkle in equal parts of teaching, intuition, and humor. My teaching, while I take it seriously, is also a place to encourage curiosity and deep exploration of the self. It's a great place to be honest and also to make mistakes. Remember-- all of Creation is interwoven with joy, humor, and curiosity. These things help us to relax, learn, and expand our perspective.
You have a strong sense of humility when it comes to working with plants and animals-- you find your lessons with them are unforgettable and peak experience
Many of my students tell me that they have an insatiable desire to explore our natural world and to learn from all of mother nature. Many of my students work with plant medicines such as Ayahuasca, Rapeh, Sananga, and Mapacho (Sacred Tobacco-- nicotiana rustica) during their visits or life in South America, as well as many others from their own cultures and ceremonies they were invited to.
You enjoy proving yourself wrong and learning how to become more curious, mentally flexible, and forgiving every day
Maybe one of the most important parts here-- you can't learn if you're not willing to see how wrong, silly, inflexible, or just downright misguided you've been in the past. And you also can learn if you're open to seeing that everything that you'll find is "right" to you, even if it has taken you years to discover it, has always been within you-- you just needed to find the right moment to recall it. Once we've gone over these hurdles, that's when life gets really good, because your curiosity will be the one leading you to self-discovery. And that is really, really fun!
You are seeking or cultivating devotion to your highest power-- something I call Creator
This is by far the most important part to me. To me, Creator is the very reason why I am alive, the breath of life itself, the ultimate power in forgiveness, compassion, understanding, humility, curiosity, laughter, joy, kindness, sharing, and so much more. To me, Creator is as a wonderful student described to me once-- "The very fabric that weaves this universe together," and I certainly agree. You definitely don't have to believe in a Creator, nor do you have to feel connected to that power. But if that's a connection that you're seeking, or you feel that Creator somehow gives meaning to your life, then we may very well work wonderfully together!
Thanks for reading! I hope this helped clarify some of your intentions or questions about your own life. And if you're a new student looking to get started in 1:1 classes with me, send me an email at lakwehoflight@gmail.com to inquire about bookings, packages, and availability.
With Love
