Spirit Guides 101: From a Medium Who Does This For a Living

A lot of people, including myself, have had some layer of confusion surrounding who or what Spirit Guides are, how they can present themselves, and what they are here to do.

So, with the help of my two beautiful Guides Ilka and Twin Feather, I'd love to present to you a little write-up on what they'd like to share about who your Spirit Guides are, and what they'd like to say to you....

• Your Spirit Guide is your personal guide to your past, present, future, life path, spiritual gifts, and guidance for the next step in life. They love you unconditionally, they support every decision you make for the highest of love and healing, they are always with you, and they want you to know this.

Really, this is the reason I'm writing this article, because my Guides have been asking me to share this with all of you.

• Spirit Guides don't always present themselves as a living, breathing person, but just on the other side of the veil

You might see them as a glittering light, a blob of bright color, a ripple effect in the air in front of you, or a number of other ways. You can also feel them, hear them, smell them (ever smell flowers when there were none around?), and sense them in your energy field if those are part of your gifts.

All ways they come through, if it feels to you like it's them, are valid.

• Your Spirit Guide(s) can be a regular person (as a spirit), an animal, a plant, a light being (what some people mistakenly call aliens), an Angel, a Saint, a deceased relative, a sibling who chose not to incarnate in this life, and many more things

Don't let yourself be totally limited by thinking they're going to show up like your neighbor in his basketball shorts and hoodie.

They might, but usually they will take on an appearance that will resonate with you in the best way. Shorts-and-hoodie might be your style, but they can also appear in any type of appearance that you feel is near and dear to your heart. Most likely you'll feel tickled pink when you discover what they look like.

Your Spirit Guide can also totally be someone completely popular, because Spirit does not become limited by time or space like we humans tend to be.

Saint Francis is one of my Guides but it doesn't mean I'm the only one who has access to Saint Francis.

There are probably tens of thousands of people who he personally answers to, so feel free to be completely open to the possibility that someone you really connect to is connecting to you, over and over, for a really good reason (wink!)

• Some Spirit Guides are also a collaboration of several, or many, beings who collectively call themselves by one name.

One of my guides, Ilka, is a collection of a few different animals and plants who appears as a singular person.

Sometimes we can find that one Guide is a collaboration of several beings/animals/plants because they want you to draw in on the Medicine that each carries, and to eventually come to terms with understanding how their collective energy harmonizes and inspires you.

• Most people tend to have a team of Guides as well. You can have one Guide, one Guide who's a collection of several beautiful Beings, or you can have a team of 10 or 100 Guides. It's individual to each person.

So if you've met one, or you're hoping that you have at least one Guide to meet, you might be pleasantly surprised that over time you'll continue meeting a whole specialized team, sort of like a team of energetic surgeons, cheerleaders, gurus, and trail guides who are supporting you at all times.

• Your Spirit Guides might not always maintain the exact same physical appearance: over time, they can shift and grow their energy to suit you at the moment, however you will recognize them through their energy and their sharing of Creator's unconditional love with you

What I really mean by this is that, just because a spirit shows up, doesn't always mean it's your Spirit Guide.

Learn to hone yourself to identifying energy by frequency which tells the truth about who you're talking to.

Your Spirit Guides will always make you feel the purest of light: not just a little okay, not just a little nice, but their energetic signature will always be whole, fulfilling unconditional love, peace, and harmony.

It doesn't mean you have to feel like a Buddha when you talk to them, but being able to feel the contrast between what feels like pure devotion and clarity is very different from feeling a random spirit who is "kinda nice" who just wants someone to take away their boredom for a little bit.

• Your Spirit Guides might choose to introduce themselves to you, however, if you are aligned to that moment during a meditation, a shamanic journey, a plant medicine ceremony, a psychic reading (many Guides come through me to introduce themselves to many people!), when you're drinking tea, or when you're doing a specific ritual to call them in.

There really is a time and place for everything. Don't feel discouraged if you do a meditation to meet your Guide and they don't come through in the way you wanted them to.

And don't feel upset if they keep you waiting and you keep buying readings from people and they're not showing up.

(Mine came to me when I was 22 and I had already been asking her to show up for 10 years!)

• Your Spirit Guide is your devoted, ever-trusting, ever-loving, ever-forgiving Spirit that knows everything about you, at every single moment, and never gets upset with you, and never holds a grudge against you.

We joke around sometimes about how our Guides must be so frustrated about how we keep falling off track, how we forget who we are, how we do silly things and get distracted from our spiritual path.

But don't worry-- your Guides already knew you were going to do that, it was probably part of the plan you agreed to before you came to Earth, and they've already forgiven you and are already joyfully welcoming you into the next step of your path.

After all, nobody was born perfect, and through making mistakes we take steps to find out who we are and who we're not.

• Your Spirit Guides are also, without a doubt, offering you constant signs of their presence through repeating numbers, birds, animals, words that resonate with you, and conversations strangers have around you that give you chills

Your numbers, birds, pennies, license plates that say ELF, and so on, are not just signs that you're on the right track, but they're also little breadcrumbs that are leading you to your higher and highest vibrations, to hone and focus you to experiencing, eagerly expecting, and receiving love around every turn.

They don't just pop up when you asked God for a spouse and you think it's now going to happen, it's more like they want to draw your attention to these numbers that light up a beautiful spark inside of you to keep honing you to positive vibrations so that you can keep attracting positive vibrations, maybe like drawing in that partner you've been praying for, and then this will bring that to happen.

• Your Guides take into account your thoughts, words, and feelings when it comes to offering you a wonderful new opportunity for your life or bringing a new challenge or decision to you

Your Guides really care so much about you, don't think they've left you in the dust when you encounter something that feels unpleasant or overwhelming. They will never give you something that's more than you can handle with the help of Creator and your team of Guides.

• And yes, your Guides are also listening when you complain to them, or when you feel alone and ask them to comfort you

Your Guides might not always be able to take a physical form (and I'd say for them to briefly incarnate physically is a miracle in itself), but when they listen to you grieve or feel lost, they will bring about situations, set up by them, to help comfort you.

You might be crying over a rough day, ask your Guides for help, and then a beloved friend will coincidentally message you in that moment.

It's not a coincidence, that's an intervention that your Guides collaborated with theirs on, just for you.

• To get to know your Guides better, ask them clear, concise questions, and ask them to teach you about the ways they answer these questions.

When I began bouncing questions off my Guides, but I hadn't met them "in person" yet, I would say something like, "If you're here and can answer this question with a yes, send me three undeniable signs within the next 3 hours."

Over the next 3 hours, three hummingbirds zoomed very close to my left ear while I was sitting on my back porch.

To me, for wild hummingbirds to come close to me for absolutely no reason was a very affirmative yes.

Now my Guides sometimes still collaborate through hummingbirds in this way.
